Captain Thomas Track

Easily accessible from Sumner, this historic track up to Evans Pass is shared by walkers, runners and mountain bikers.

Description	Start at Sumnervale Reserve at the end of Lower Sumnervale Drive. Follow the track markers to a stile that takes you over into Greenwood Park. The track has a gravel surface and climbs uphill initially beside a small stream. Gravel gives way to grass and the track becomes wider before climbing up through a section of switchbacks. The track then turns left towards Evans Pass and gradually climbs through rocky terrain to Evans Pass Road. Cross into Rapanui Bush where another short track will take you to Evans Pass. This is a shared-use track so watch out for mountain bikers coming downhill. The top of Evans Pass offers views out across Lyttelton Harbour and connects with walks along the Crater Rim in either direction.
