Details

What we are doing

We are upgrading the level crossing at Sawyers Arms Road, which will include the following safety upgrades to support the Northern Line cycleway: a signalised pedestrian crossing, improved pedestrian railway crossing points and additional flashing lights and bells. Other works will include new ducting and drainage, new kerb and channels, new footpaths and streetscaping. We expect the new traffic lights will be operational in mid 2025.

Traffic impacts

The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the condition of the roads. We will provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.

Work hours will generally be between the hours of 7am and 7pm. For Stages 1 and 3, the road will be reinstated back to two-way outside of work hours.

There are three stages of traffic management for this project. Note: Stage 1 and 3 are identical.

Stage 1: Monday 10 February until Friday 28 February

  • A lane will be closed on Sawyers Arms Road at the railway crossing and temporary traffic lights will be used to manage traffic through the work area. Please expect delays or plan a different travel route to avoid the area.
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access across the railway crossing will be available. Please follow the signs and any instructions from staff onsite. There will also be escorts available if needed.

Stage 2: Saturday 1 March until Sunday 16 March

  • Sawyers Arms Road will be closed day and night to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians at the railway crossing.
  • Detour routes will be in place, with signage to redirect traffic around the road closures. Cyclists and pedestrians will also have a signposted detour route. Please allow extra travel time if you will affected by the closures.

Stage 3: Monday 17 March until Friday 11 April

  • A lane will be closed on Sawyers Arms Road at the railway crossing and temporary traffic lights will be used to manage traffic through the work area. Please expect delays or plan a different travel route to avoid the area.
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access across the railway crossing will be available. Please follow the signs and any instructions from staff onsite. There will also be escorts available if needed.
  • A 30km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our workers and everyone safe. Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs.

Information for residents and businesses

  • For the duration of the project, all on-street parking close to our work site will be temporarily removed to allow for safe working space.
  • Access to properties and businesses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained on either side of the work site.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.

Driveway access

Driveway access to properties will be maintained. However, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. We will try and give you plenty of notice for this. If you need to get in and out of your property and we are in your way, please just talk to one of the Fulton Hogan staff members and they will make sure you can use your driveway.
