Wastewater renewal
The existing wastewater pipes on Flockton Street have reached the end of their service life and require replacement. We are renewing and upsizing the pipes along the full length of Flockton Street, from Warrington Street to Westminster Street. This work, which will be completed in two stages, is part of a wider project that began in June 2025 to renew the wastewater pipes in the area.
Harrison Street wastewater renewals will also be completed during stage two of the works, extending from 30 Harrison Street to Flockton Street.

Street renewal
Following each stage of the wastewater works, we will be completing road pavement renewal and resurfacing along the full length of Flockton Street to help minimise potential vibration from cars and buses, which has been a concern for residents.
We will also install four raised safety platforms to encourage safe speeds and mitigate the impact of increased traffic on Flockton Street following the opening of the Christchurch Northern Corridor. The slope of the safety platforms has been designed to prevent additional vibration issues.
Following extensive community consultation on this project, a revision to the design was made, reducing the number of safety platforms from seven to four. The upgrades will help to support a quieter, safer and pleasant residential environment.
Traffic impacts
A road closure remains in place on Flockton Street between Westminster Street and Warrington Street, with detours for general traffic and buses. See MetroInfo detours and updates(external link) for more information on detours for the route 44 bus service.
The length of the road closure will vary as the works progress, and the contractor will liaise with residents regarding vehicle and pedestrian access, as required. Please follow the signage.
Access for emergency vehicles will always be available.
