School travel dashboard

Our dashboard provides insights into how students, teachers, and families are travelling to and from schools across Ōtautahi Christchurch.

This data comes from our annual school travel survey, which captures travel patterns from participating schools across the district.

The data is collected through our annual school travel survey, which is sent to schools in term 1 each year to distribute to their community. Students, families and school staff report their usual travel modes, giving us a snapshot of behaviour across the city. This approach helps us understand how travel choices are evolving and where support for active travel is most needed.

While the survey provides valuable insights, it represents participating schools only and relies on self-reported data. This means results may not capture every school or reflect day-to-day variations. Seasonal factors, school events, and weather can also influence travel choices.

Understanding school travel patterns helps us design safer streets, improve infrastructure, and support initiatives that encourage walking and biking for short trips.

Explore the dashboard to see the latest trends and how your school compares!
