The great outdoors
Moa Reserve is a lovely place to let the kids run around or tend to the community garden.
The Ōtākaro Orchard(external link) on Cambridge Terrace is a large community garden and orchard right on the Ōtākaro-Avon River. Anyone can join in on Saturday working bees. The river also creates a strong connection from the Moa neighbourhood to the heart of the Central City.
The Margaret Mahy Family Playground is the neighbourhood’s backyard. It is an easy walk to the Ōtākaro-Avon River.
Culture and community
The Moa neighbourhood is a family-friendly neighbourhood in Central City. Top family attractions are the nearby Margaret Mahy Family Playground and the giant swings, pump track and basketball court in the East Frame’s Rauora Park, and its walking distance to Christchurch East and Ao Tawhiti School.
The small streets feel friendly and many properties back on to the local Moa reserve.
The neighbourhood has strong heritage character and links to Christchurch history, including McLeans Mansion on Manchester Street and Tautahi Pā on the Avon Ōtākaro River. The city’s earliest European settlers are buried at the Barbadoes Street Cemetery.
